The divorce rate in the United States as compared to the marriage rate
has increased over the years. Both rates have fluctuated throughout with time. In
the 1940s, the divorce rate saw a gradual increase from around 2.0 per 1000
total population to about  4.0 in the
late 1940s.After that, there was a decline through the 1950s until it started
to rise  back again in the mid-1960s.About
twenty years later, the nation recorded one  of its highest divorce rates in the century.

The following years after this episode welcomed a gradual decrease in marriage
and divorce rates. The trend in data collected over the years can be attributed
to a number of factors with the attitude of the people with respect to the institution
