In order to describe the process of motivating employees during a busy period of time this essaywill discuss two theories: Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s two-factor theory ofmotivation. “In Maslow’s hierarchy needs are structured into 5 levels: Physical, Security, Social,Self-esteem, and Self-fulfilment” (Rollinson, 2008). Logically the workers would be motivated byhaving a higher level of their needs fulfilled, only after the lower level has been satisfied. Forinstance a worker who is starving will be motivated to earn just enough money to buy food, beforeworrying about getting promoted or earning recognition and respect in the workplace. PrintingCompany should therefore offer different incentives to workers in order to help them fulfil eachneed and move up the hierarchy. Since every employee is unique it is also important to considerthat not all of them will be motivated the same way, and neither will they move up the hierarchy atthe same time. Consequently companies should consider offering a different set of incentives fromemployee to employee. “Herzberg had close links with Maslow and believed in a two-factortheory of motivation, those factors being motivators and hygiene” (Rollinson, 2008). Motivatorsare factors related to the job which will directly improve the employee’s motivation if introducedby the business, whereas hygiene factors are those that surround the job and therefore do notdirectly improve the employee’s motivation, but would de-motivate them if not present. Forinstance opportunities for promotion or recognition belong to the group of motivators whereashygiene factors are related to the cleanliness of the workplace. I will try to motivate my employeesby:? Increasing their wages for 5%? Offering to pay them 50% more when they have to work overtime? Promoting those that work the hardest? Offering a few extra days of vacation? Having a special event to chat with one another and have a good time and so on.After this period is short period and my company has produce high-quality products and thedemand is very satisfactory.
